Seniors in Action Travel Club (SIATC), formerly known as Lou Walker Travel Club, traces its roots back to the inception of the LWSC in 2006 in Lithonia, Georgia. Since its establishment, the club has operated under a set of By-Laws, officially accepted by its members on April 28, 2006. Over the years, SIATC has been led by six dedicated presidents: Roger Brown, Phylis Drayton, Tony Robinson, Walter Glass, William White, and currently, Barney Franklin.
Comprising a team of ten officers, including roles such as president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer, among others, SIATC operates with efficiency and transparency. Additionally, the club operates through four essential standing committees: the planning committee, steering committee, membership committee, and ethics committee.
Regular engagement is encouraged within the club, with eleven meetings held annually. Membership is open to all LWSC members, and those interested in becoming "voting members" of SIATC must attend a minimum of six meetings and participate in at least one trip per year. With a robust membership base, boasting over 300 LWSC attendees and more than 100 active "voting members" annually, SIATC remains a vibrant community hub.
Meetings are a cornerstone of the club's activities, convened on the second Thursday of each month at 3 pm in the Victory room. Attendance is recorded to ensure the active participation of members. Furthermore, the club's democratic processes are upheld through annual elections held during the December meeting, with newly elected officers assuming their roles in January of the following year.
SIATC, a participant-driven club, was organized in 2006 when the Lou
Walker Senior Center opened. SIATC’s mission is:
- To meet the travel desires and provide safe alternative
transportation and tours to members of the Lou Walker
Senior Center.
- To encourage cultural exchanges, education and
entertainment through excursions.
- To travel to other destinations and learn about other
people, heritages, lifestyles and hobbies both similar and
different from our own.
- To socialize with other individuals who share the love of
travel.
- To enjoy ourselves and the world which surrounds us and
make the most of each day we live.
- To refire, to learn and to live.
- To keep seniors mobile for mental and physical health
- To get on the road again, to see places we’ve enjoyed
before, to go places we’ve never been, & to see things we
may never see again!
